SPOON & SPRIG STUDIO NOTES ON THE CONGREGATION

I began this piece by making each of the porcelain beads individually, basing their appearance off of blood, cancer and other cells that reside in our body. For me, there was this innate beauty and complexity that existed in the visuals of the cells that brought destruction and ultimately death, while the regular and healthy cells were simple and mundane. It is amazing that we all have these cells in our body, both helpful and harmful, and if we are lucky the help will overcome the harm. How incredible it is that our health teeters on millions and millions of things we cannot see, all working together to maintain a balance.
